Church Etiquette

In your coming and going to and from church, please remember the following church etiquette in order to help create a suitable environment for worship:

  • Please ~no cell phones! It’s discourteous to have them ring in God’s house (unless you’re a doctor on call).
  • Use modest dress. Shorts, halter tops, tank tops, flip flops and baseball caps are best left at home.
  • No strong perfume or cologne. A parishioner had an allergic reaction to the person next to her whose perfume was overpowering.
  • Don’t leave church early. Would it be polite for you to rush out of your friend’s dinner party every time you are invited? (True emergencies are exceptions).
  • If children are unruly, take them to the vestibule in the rear of the church. While we are a pro-life church, and will tolerate children who occasionally cry, there are varying degrees of crying which are intolerable to the worshippers next to you. Use common sense. If the child is uncontrollable, take him or her to the vestibule.
  • Avoid unnecessary talking in church. Church is primarily a place to pray, not to chat.
  • No gum chewing or breath mints. (Remember the one hour fast before Communion. Water and medication are exceptions.)
  • Don’t get up and move in church in the middle of a reading. Wait until the reading ends.
