Was raised in Rootstown, Ohio and attended Immaculate Conception Parish in Ravenna. He is the son of Adeline and Joseph (dec.) Frient. He has 3 brothers. He attended Kent State University, and Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned two degrees there. He has served as an Associate Pastor at St. Stephens, Niles; St Patrick, Kent; and St Joseph, Austintown. He served as Pastor at St Patrick Kinsman and Our Lady of Victory in Andover before becoming Pastor at Mount Carmel.
