Was raised in Rootstown, Ohio and attended Immaculate Conception Parish in Ravenna. He is the son of Adeline and Joseph (dec.) Frient. He has 3 brothers. He attended Kent State University, and Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned two degrees there.
