PRAYER FOR PROTECTION

The Light of Christ
surrounds us;
The Love of Christ
enfolds us;
The Power of Christ
protects us;
Wherever we are,
Christ is with us.

“I want you to know I went to Confession tonight. I was terrified. Needlessly. The priest who heard my confession ws not disgusted by me, or angry with me. He never stopped smiling at me even as I revealed by ugliest sins. He was gentle, kind, and loving. Of course, this made me cry. Hard. He was patient. He absolved me of my sins. Told me I was worthy of all God’s kingdom. So not what I expected. This website (hopeafterabortion.org) planted a seed of hope in my heart that I could really be forgiven. God took it from there. Thank you so much for being there in a way that didn’t make me feel dirty or comtemptible. For making me feel human again.”

Information for Young Adults Registering in the Parish

Registration is the official way we join a parish.  Some people mistakenly believe that just because they happen to live near a particular parish, used to go to its school, or come here once in a while they automatically belong. At times young people who have moved away for years mistakenly believe they are still signed up under their parents. The truth is, they need to register at the parish near their current residence. Children are parishioners under their parents only until they turn eighteen.

Please take a moment here to correct any and all misunderstandings.

Membership in a parish involves signing up, formally enrolling yourself at a parish if you are eighteen years old or older.  Registration is a commitment to a community, a way to be included in the religious, social, and ministerial activities.  It is also a statement that the member wants to share his or her time, talents, and treasures to support the parish.

For years, we have published the fact on the front of the bulletin that you are registered if you currently receive envelopes from this church.  If you do not receive envelopes, you are not registered.

Please register as soon as possible at the parish to which you want to commit your time, talents, and treasures.  If you wish to register here, one phone call on your part to 330-652-5825 begins the simple registration process.

Many times we are called and asked to provide Sponsor Certificates for young adults and those people are no longer registered. If you are gong away to college, it may be wise to register and we will gladly add you to our e-mail list and if you like we can send you a weekly bulletin. We understand that going away to school does not mean that you can be here on occasions when you are home from school. We love to see you at Mass when you are home. However, it is important to remain listed as a parishioner, especially if you want to be a sponsor or plan to be married in our church after you graduate. Registration demonstrates that you belong.

The Pastor may not sign a Sponsor Certificate stating that you are an active member of the parish if you haven’t taken the time to register and demonstrate your commitment to the parish for a period of time before asking for a Sponsor Certificate or want to plan your wedding.

If you register, the parish knows it can count on you and call on you to assist in its mission.  Registration is a statement of faith and confidence in the life and work of your parish.

Please be sure to share this information with adults you know who may be interested in the life and mission of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish.

Thank you for your dedication to our parish and may God bless you.

Mount Carmel Scholarship Presentation - Sunday, May 22, 11:30am Mass

Last spring we decided to form a Scholarship Program here at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. The overarching goal of this Scholarship is to encourage young people in our parish to put their faith into action.

Our newly formed Scholarship Program Fund was built up throughout this past year with funds from the Cavatelli Dinners, Pew Plaque Donations, gifts from Mount Carmel Society and Immaculate Conception Society, Youth Ministry Fundraisers such as the Pepperoni Roll Sale, the Christmas Candy Sale and the Bowl-a-thon, plus donations by individual parishioners. Thanks to all who generously supported this worthwhile and important program.

To be considered for the scholarship, the applicants had to fulfill the following requirements:

We formed an anonymous Scholarship Selection Committee to review the scholarship applications. It was decided that scholarship awards in the amount of One-Thousand Dollars ($1,000) would be given. Scholarship applications were judged based on the following criteria:

Certainly, the anonymous Scholarship Selection Committee had a challenging task before them as they made their selections with much prayer, thought and reflection. They were particularly discerning in their selections this year knowing they were setting precedence for future years of the Scholarship Program. They are to be commended for their efforts.

And it is at this time that we are happy to award our two One-Thousand Dollar Scholarships. Would Carmella D’Urso and Nicolette Merlo please step forward.

Carmella and Nicolette on behalf of the Scholarship Selection Committee and all those who supported our Scholarship Program, I am happy to present to you these certificate/ vouchers for scholarship awards in the amount of One-Thousand Dollars. As you use this money to continue your education, may you grow ever closer to our Lord and continue to have a positive impact on our community. (pictures)

          Let’s give them a round of applause.
